Cha Jongrye

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Cha Jongrye was born in Daejeon, Korea, a historic province now known as the silicon valley of Korea, but whose name translates to “large field,” harkening back to its simple, organic roots. Those roots in the simplicity of nature are the basis for Jongrye’s monumental works which seem to defy the confines of space and the natural world. Cha Jongrye works with wood, but not in the way we’re used to. She challenges the material to do more than replicate the frozen recollection of a person, place or thing. Making wood fluid, she reminds the observer of its moment of creation, the organic process before the wood was firmed and placed in the world. (via Bill Lowe Gallery) Photobucket Photobucket
