Andrew Newton
” I have been painting now for about 9 years, and have graduated with 1st class honours degree in 2008 in Fine Art. I have been interested in portraiture ever since I started painting and haven’t looked back. I have created a body of work since 2007 of hyper-realistic portrait works which represent a mundane, banal view of people and society today with a morbid fascination with the basic everyday of life. It always intrigued me how most basic vulgar things we do, even expressions we pull are actually entertaining and interesting when viewed on a large scale.. Even though I’m still producing hyper-real portraits, in early 2011 I have ventured down a more painterly and lose feel to my paintings. Looking to more scenic and long shots of people, however still in the mundane language in which is my practice. ” – Andrew Newton
