Ammonite Washbasin

p

Concrete washbasin shaped as a fossil from HighTech. “Ammonites are an extinct species of cephalopods which lived in the sea about 400 million years ago. Their shells are found all over the world and they are very much sought-after by fossil-hunters, their collector’s value depending on size and the state of preservation. The fascinating shape of ammonite fossils at which resembles a rolled up helix is the basic design element in the new HighTech washbasin. The association of water and fossil design is a clear allusion to the prehistoric inspiration for the Ammonite washbasin.” (via Trendir)

  5. Sal

I want to go to there

  6. That’s pretty cool looking. I think more sinks should have artistic shapes like this.

  7. Ellen

LOVE this!!! definitely unique! I imagine since it’s concrete the color possibilities are endless.

  8. tode

“try cleaning tooth paste outta that… bitch”

Eh… yeah what he said! Fuck that.

  9. SINKS ROOL

    I LOVE SINKS

  10. Bob D

    Serious Funkedalia!

  11. Lauren

I am amazed that some people find it so difficult to wipe toothpaste off day to day life must be hell for you guys. It wouldn’t be any different than any other sink. Just wipe…

This sink is definitely awesome- both the aesthetic appeal, and when the water is turned on as it goes down the spiral. Would love a source and pricing details.

  12. Eva

I had a sink like this once. it was the same shape, but in marble and without the unique spiral. I like this.

  13. hquinly

    love that sink… how much???

  14. dizzy

I like it. the closest I’ve come to that is a Clam shell shaped sink.

  15. merrick

is this real or a concept?

  16. Jimbo

“I am amazed that some people find it so difficult to wipe toothpaste off day to day life must be hell for you guys. It wouldn’t be any different than any other sink. Just wipe…”

White tooth paste…. black matte sink just wouldn’t be the same after a few days.
Use kitchen sink or spit in the hole.

  17. Kellyg

I think it’s concept. It’s not something that could bought just yet, I believe.

  18. Sink Lover 2000

AWESOME!!!! I LOVE SINKS!! NEAT SINK!! COOL SINK!! I REALLY LIKE THAT SINK!! HOORAY FOR UNIQUE SINKS!!
    SINKS!!!!!!!

  19. this is so awesome. i want a really modern house someday and to have that in my bathroom would be like a dream come true

  20. Sheniqua

I would eat my grandma’s punanny for a sink like that. YEAJ BOIIII!!!!!

  21. Sheniqua

Lauren made me cry, her comments seem to imply that being able to wipe toothpaste off is easy. Lauren you shouldn’t be so boastful, I happen to find toothpaste removal incredibly difficult but I bet she cant pluck nipple hair as well as I can. YEAHHHH BOIIII!!!

  22. Dr.Philmedik

    Potatoes? cheese? I like fish.

  23. Daniel

To all who are asking “how much”, this looks like a custom job and it will be different for everyone depending on the shape of the sink and the person who does the job. Probably the best way to find out what it would cost you would be to find someone in your area who does work like this and tell them what you want (or better yet, print these pictures out and show them). They should be able to give you a quote for the work. Keep in mind that since the sink pictured here is custom, it will be difficult to recreate it exactly.

As for the toothpaste discussion, there are sealers that can be applied to concrete to make it non-porous so that stuff like toothpaste doesn’t sink in and can be wiped off easily (see http://tiny.cc/bi96S).

  24. wow that is sooooo coooool id love to have that in my bathrom

  25. Chris

everybody wants what no one else has. this sink sinks. looks cool but not very practical. unless your of the fashion before function crowd. I want a sink that i can fill up and stick my head in without getting sea-scapes imprinted on my face.

  26. Chris

Did i say sea-scapes? i meant 4000000 year old ancient life forms. YEAHHHH BOIIII!!!

  27. Yodaler

Spit down the hole eh…. thats what they all say….

  28. washing hands has never been any fun.

  29. edje101

The little ridgy bits of the ammonite shell seem to resemble a tiny staircase which the water tumbles & dances down just like Fred Astaire. In reality this kind of staircase could lead to accidents and that old US favourite the lawsuit. So all in all, a fairly dangerous concept that may also not embrace toothpaste spume dispersal particularly efficiently. Shame…

  30. rad

the fred astaire thing was cute, “stairs” “staire” adorable. as for sink accidents, i am pretty sure most people don’t get hurt in the sink but around it. i should sue you for slandering the united states love for lawsuits.

  31. sam

Wonder how hard it is to keep clean!!!

  32. j

Concrete washbasin shaped as a fossil from HighTech. “Ammonites are an extinct species of cephalopods which lived in the sea ab…

Just klick on HighTech it’s written in bold because it is a link

  33. …great for washing ugly stains out of those tighty whities :)

  34. anonymus

i hate all of you, you are all stupid. Its just a fucking sink.

  35. slamminsalmon

    spiral out! keep brushing!

  36. kelley

    Absolutely lovely!

  37. Interesting idea, however, not practical at all. There would come a day where a woman is in a huge rush and needs to wash her hair in the sink. This sink would hurt.

  38. bezel

Pretty, but imagine watching a loogie spiral slowly to infinity, trying all the while not to be sick because your green glob of snot won’t disappear fast enough! Eeeeewwwwww!

  39. gwynn

I’m with the person about the toothpaste..bitch to clean.
Also, as I was scrolling down to add a comment an anonymus says they hate us all, we’re so stupid, it’s just a sink.
You poor, sad, unhappy person. I bet your house looks awful. Sigh.

  40. Love it,want it must have ti! Oh darling…..! :D

  41. Phil E. Drifter

    Looks photoshopped.

  42. blahhah

almost as cool as the sinks in the Sydney opera house

  43. Gazzy

    lol @ chris

  44. TC

If I were to build another house I might have to have one of these.

  45. Vanilla Gorilla

Its like those amusing gumball machines that cost 50 cents instead of 25. Fuckin flare.

  46. SinkSmakEmEharD

Fuckin tooth paste! Oh god. This sink is so fuckin awesome! I would scrub a big steamy pile of shit out of it if i could have that sink.

  47. Dick

    I’d vomit in that shit

  48. I will never look at my boring sink the same way again!

  49. A snail shell sink…. looks cool, but obviously not practical; we get it… A+ for hip-ness…. C-/D+ for practical-ness lol…. word

  50. the king

i would pee in that every morning

  51. not half bad

  52. X13

    Definitely photoshopped

  53. meagan

that would be sweet if it weren’t so flippin ugly. The color and simplicity make it look drab when it could really be awesome.

  54. Duh

Do you mean practicality?! I’m sure you meant that instead of practicalness… in any case, I would put this sink in a powder room where everyone could see it and no one would brush their teeth in it. Just where guests could wash their hands and then tell me how much they LOVE the sink. :)

  55. Really beautiful and who would think you would say that about a sink. The rub, how about making it afforable, Im guessing its anything but that.Thats sad all these great designs that only the very wealthy can have.

  56. uhhhh biaaa

good idea.. too simple.. why not just do it in some crazy african granite or something with small fossils in it.. shit otherwise the sink is a perfectly fine sink unless its not deep or the faucet hangs out far because that is necesary..

  57. We do this type of concrete work…if you are in the Southeast USA area…give us a call. We’ll get you an estimate and you can visit our showroom!!! The sealers we use make cleaning simple!!! Get creative…

  58. Go to our website — we can do this!

  59. gordon

    So??????

  60. mira

this is soooooo nice i love it! something different.. i wonder how they make this…

  61. JimSmart

And what was wrong with a regular round basin ?

  62. RHONDA

I just would like to point out and let it be known that yes I also hate you all ,its only a sink. Not even really that cool of a sink. More like already been done 80`s sea shell theme without the peach…But whats most disturbing is why the hell I read all your stupid blogs about a lame ass sink and if you only knew how painfully slow I type,A sign the end is near

  63. Amanda

I like the idea. I would have one of these sinks but maybe change the sharp edges… give it rounded edge

  64. tayshaun

in the time it takes to invent, plan, create, consider and install this piece of (art) people like me can not give a shit

  65. meagan

WOW!!! Talk about bitter folk. My goodness guys, it’s a sink and everyone is going to have their won thoughts about it, no need to attack each other for it. It’s small mindedness like that that keeps our society stuck in the rut it’s in. So what if one person may find it hard to cleen toothpaste out of it, who gives a shit if someone else doesnt like the color. The fact of the matter is simply this, everyone has their own thoughts and ideas and the sooner we all tune into that the sooner we will have a more peacefull society.
And BTW I like the sink I would also round down the edges and choose one of the other six colors that it is offered in, but I happen to think that it is unique and has a very simple beauty to it!

  66. Amonite Lover

I can’t believe everyone likes this for the sink aspect more than the amonite aspect. I mean, come on, it’s an amonite, right in your wash-room, bulbous also tapered, and, as a previous poster mentioned, allows the foods and waters to dance down the sink like a liquid Fred Astaire! I would prefer of course one that handles solids.

As for the toothpaste spume and its cleaning, I must say that I never clean that out anyway. It would build up and create beautiful rime and scum, much like the amonite organism itself.

  67. j0nas

it’s cool, but where do i shit?

  68. it’s very cool :)

  69. myles

    What a spectacular sink design!

  70. I bought a home with a clam style sink, with ridges inside and out that travel all the way to the floor, as it is a pedestal style sink. quite nice looking, as for cleaning, yeah, it can be tedious, but all in all, I’d give another 5 minutes for the stylish look. Attractive piece in my opinion. Well worth the extra minute or two spent to clean. But if cleaning it is what you’re worried about, you’re not likeley to be one interested in it in the first place.

  71. sarah

Uhhh yeah. Why pay more for a designed sink, when a regular sink works juuuust fine! haha Sure it looks good, but what? you only use it for like 10 seconds.

  72. dwg

    What is “toothpaste?”

    YYYEEAAAA BOOIIIIIII!!!!!

  73. S Dartmouth

    Such a paradox…….NOT!
It’s cute for sure, but why have we forgotten that form follows function? An interesting water feature as designed, but near useless after that. So my final remark is, design schools need to stop rewarding this kind of thought so much. Sure it’s fine to bring out creativity in first year students but once you are in the working world, your work shouldn’t look like a first year project anymore.

  74. Adan

All things that would clog the drain would stop along the way… genio!

  75. ruckus

I would love to piss in that.!!

  76. I think I’m in love.

  77. jayma

Hi Erika, What is your website?

  78. Peter

man, cephalopods are sooooo cool. maybe they will design more household furniture around other species of cephalopod

  79. Nat

Soooo beautiful! I wish it were mine…why is everyone so afraid of doing a bit of cleaning? It can’t kill you. Spend less time on the internet. ;D I have plenty of time for the care and enjoyment of beautiful, well-made things. Naturally, if you can afford something like this, surely you’ll have servants to clean it, anyway? Beautiful things that last a long time, take time.

  80. Peggy

But will the cat still be comfortable enough to sleep in there?

  81. xan

OMG I WOULD SOOO MAKE LITTLE BOATS AND LIKE FLOAT THEM DOWN IT!!!!!!!

  82. jim

Looks great! Just need a shower that looks like a t rex skeleton now…

  83. bo

gee, tap dancing will never be the same dangerous act which it always had been in the past,

Before when i fell into the sink, (after shuffling myself into oblivion); that was it ! because i’d be slipping my way down the drain hole.
But with this new design i can jump down off of the tap and dance down the tiny staircase with ease ( and maybe up the stairs again to try to jump back on the slippery tap….weeeee !!!

  84. TB

The sink looks kind of useless, like it would be great on a movie set; however, I think the real power of the sink is its fun and flamboyant way of illustrating how some greedy people have too much money.

  85. mariw

    i loved it

  86. ShadowMonkey

Photoshopped .. look at the pixels .

  87. That would suck to clean

  88. Moe

very creative, pain in the ass shaving in it tho.

  89. sooo cool…how much? i got hmmm…oh wait, im broke…lol

  90. Would love to have one in my bathroom. Really really great

  91. Larg

It is beautiful, but the designer has decided how much water I can have in my basin and that takes the interactivity out it. Forget the toothpaste, How about if you wanted to run an inch of water to shave or wash your face. Out of luck.
I like the powder room idea where people are only going to do one thing with it and be gone.

  92. I had a sink exactly like that a few years ago in a previous home, except that it was a lot rounder, and the color was different. Also, the drain hole was right in the center and it didn’t have the spiral shape at all. It was basically a round bowl, kind of like normal sinks. Actually, come to think of it, it probably was a normal sink.

  93. bob dobbs

Not photoshop, this is a 3D rendering made with 3D Studio Max or Maya. Not a real sink but a design so you probably can’t buy it.

  94. Design Guru

Good luck trying to do something as simple as washing your hands without water splashing over the basin, especially on the right hand side.

This design makes the effective useful area of the sink around 4″ (to the right of the spout). Bravo.

  95. vernon marsh

I like the way water drains out of that hole down in the bottom. Gravity is so cool!

  96. It’s available in several colours from High Tech (see link under image). The glass fiber concrete has been sealed so that toothpaste and beauty products wipe off easily and if there’s a stain then a bit of cleaning vinegar or baking soda and a microfiber cloth should take care of that very easily. I’ve seen sinks from this manufacturer in several places here in Europe and they are very attractive. Clearly not for in a family bathroom, but there is enough of a choice of sinks not to have to get too bothered about the fact that this sink is not the most practical.

  97. Desiree

The Golden Ratio : Fibonacci Sequence Nautilus Shell! NICE!
Worth the added effort to clean.

  98. Gorgeous, but as it says above, I bet it’s a sucks to clean.

  99. Brett

    Definitly try cleaning that after

  100. takes me back to the beautiful shores of shell-sinki

  101. Very stylish and unique!

  102. Britt

Tips for those who apparently have a very hard time washing toothpaste out of their sinks………………….As soon as you spit, wash the sink out. Don’t let the toothpaste sit in there and you won’t have a problem.
As for the sink….it’s beautiful and very creative.

  103. I FUCKING LOVE SINKS!

    OMFG SINKS 4 LIFE!!!!…………*fistpump*

  104. Stumblefan

Wow i thought i stumbled everything but the kitchen sink but hell there’s one

  105. fplusb

    very cool!

  106. JinX113

meagan-way to be a hippy about the whole thing ur message conveyed that we should all just get along… What fun is tht? without argumentative comments there would be no amusement for the rest of us!!! so go on keep having ur ridiculously funny arguments about sinks tht no one will evr be able to afford!!!

  107. geomace

THANK YOU, Desiree, for being the only one to acknowledge the Golden Ratio! Meagan, regardless of the fact that it’s a sink, it is mathematically beautiful, and the fact that you don’t see that is unsettling. That said, the whole toothpaste thing could be troublesome. Nevertheless, The designer most likely meant it to be an art piece used in an upscale restaurant, law office, or lounge(i.e., more for rinsing, less for brushing).

  108. so beautiful design

  109. Jman90

    totally photoshopped! i don’t believe that for a second…

  110. no

What the fuck is wrong with you people? Shave in your shower or bath tub and wash your hair there while your at it. The only thing I read that might be troublesome was the water pressure problem. Aside from that, rinse you fuckin’ toothpaste right when you are done instead of letting it dry and fuck it up. IT’S CALLED COMMON SENSE, YOU ASS WHOLES!

  111. I don’t like it.

  112. Dizzygirl

    I WANT IT

  113. Chaz

I bet that thing is a pain to clean lol

  114. Alex

Is this a photograph? It looks more like a render…

  115. Thats so fuckin’ awesome!!

  116. Bucko

    I am so stupid

  117. Omanyte

    Pokemon anyone?

  118. Cool man! I cant spit in this :) lol

  119. hahaha

Imagine if you puked in that!!! lol

  120. Geology rocks!

  121. Jesus Christ

I’m so sorry I created all you morons… I think I’ll send another flood and get rid of you and all and yr fucking toothpaste scum.

    Until then, Bitches.

    JC

  122. tracy

I LOVED IT! the design is just so romantic and mystical. this is perfect.

  123. Joey

Pretty, but I’m not cleaning that. The soap wont go all the way to the drain that easily without needing a heavy cleaning eventually…

  124. bitch fuck shit

this is neat but it would prove difficult to clean or in the case of it getting plugged impossible

  125. Dillon

Imagine chasing a wedding ring / quarter down that thing… Gotta think ahead now.

  126. Gravy

The price, on average, for an item as custom as this s approximately $500 usd. This is an easy weekend project for someone who has handy person skills. If you hurt your self with a tool while performing remedial projects, like a face plate removal or on occasion need help with a jar of jelly this project is not for you. It consists of 5 bags of cement, some rebar, some silicone sealant and a form to pour it into. In a a day you’ll have your own personalized vanity with the equivalent weight of a marble counter top. Cheers!!!.

  127. beth

    LOL!! @ JC

  128. Brett koelzer

man that would be so sweet to have, id wash my hands everything in that sink.

  129. Oleh

Holy ****! This is crazy, I am using stumble upon, and just watched a video on how to make one of these spirals on just page before this O_O

  130. squiiirrrrt!

    i have this exact sink!!!!
although, mines not spiral, or black, or stair-ishy, but still extremely identical!!!
reading these comments is some funny shit!
    bathroom.. shit.. yes!
oh and for those of you getting all emotional and soapboxy about opinions and respect.. haha shuddup! you’re just as bad as those who slam it! guys.. lets just get along because reading this whole thing was really a very entertaining way to kill some of my life.

  131. Oops, I crapped my pants. YEAH BOIIIII!

  132. Wow I need one of those.

  133. Beautiful Design!

  134. Pretty, but that would be hard to clean. Can you imagine brushing your teeth over that sink?

  135. Stari

    Bullshit!!! Has not been needfully!!!

  136. Jim Barrow

It reminds me of the steps down to the mine-shaft where I live. Did some one photograph my mine-shaft? I once stood on the bottom step of my mine-shaft and spit toothpaste down into my home.
And I think your punanny is photoshopped!

  137. Sam

Well. There goes 20 minutes of my life.

    Thanks everyone.

  138. heather

omg toothpaste sticks OUT of where the water runs this design makes it so where you spit is where the water flows, and the knob can obviously get much better pressure out considering it’s BARELY ON, it’s be great because of the beauty and easier to clean design unless that is you can’t spit straight..

  139. quite the lovely thing

  140. *cough*

wow, there are some dumb fucking people out there… =. i was entirely un-aware that people like that existed…

the sink is lovely, im going to use a similar idea in my own house that im designing because of it.

thanks to the person who pointed out the obvious link.
for all else concerned regarding toothpaste etc. – if it was your sink… make it out of something else? woah, that took some ingenuity… shit…

  141. Sam

    wow i want one

  142. G

Ha Ha, have they made a southern hemisphere model so the water can go down in the opposite direction!!!!!!!!!

  143. kay

    douche bags

  144. JESUSNOSHOP'DDUMBPEOPLE

    u made a funny
I LUV TEH INTERNETZ LONG TIME

  145. Oli

It does not matter iff it is photoshopped or not. It is still a very beautiful concept or Idea. Idiots.

  146. Well, I think the design is creative enough, it seems that it would be functional, but practicality I am not so sure of. My husband will usually shave in the sink, and I’m not certain as to how well the design would hold the water, as I don’t see a plugging devise. I suppose it’s okay. I have seen better sinks, I have seen worse sinks. The idea of cleaning the sink isn’t really that intimidating, bleach seems to fix just about any kind of sink. Eh…I think I like it:)

  147. i wud like that in my bassroom.

  148. Love it…

  149. Li

I sink when I see this one! Beautiful, elegant and I want to have it!!!

  150. I think it’s always cool to make something as mundane as the bathroom sink and put a funky twist on it. I know it would make brushing my teeth more exciting :)

No but really, I think concepts like this need to be flushed out more, I think a lot of folks would buy it. I know I would.

  151. GoD

JC, you have no say in who dies and who lives. I do. Your grounded to your room…

Until the end of time; Bicker on bitches..
    GoD

  152. Franz

Nice sink. But I almost prefer reading all your comments ! You guys are fuuuuunny.

  153. super creative. love it.

  154. Serious Funkedalia!

  155. sunk

If form is suppose to follow function than redefine the function to accommodate exceptional form.

All of you unappreciative toothpaste/lugie theorist out there probably have a practical Ford Taurus parked in the driveway of your boring ranch style home.

Spice it up with a dash of whimsical ammonite frivolity!

  156. sunk

And I had better not catch any of you spastic spitters or reluctant lugiers donning skinny jeans, unless the function you wish for is to walk around like be-wedgied ostriches.

  157. Lulu

Hey Shelly, it’s “fleshed out,” not “flushed out.” Unless, of course, you were going for punny bathroom humor.

  158. bruce

i think its fuckin gay if u ask me

  159. dean

cool i def would put that in my bathroom so me and my boyfriend can play with it ! : )

  160. I love this, I have no clue how I could make it work in my bathroom but I do love it.

  161. Denos369

    Yay for fibonacci!

  162. That’s so cool!!

  163. Wonderful design. It looks elegant and unique. The design is an eye catcher. It will draw attention from visitors or people who will see it.

  164. rollmodel88

I like to fill my sinks with water and shave. This would be difficult in a sink shaped like an ammonite.

  165. Great, very creative!

  166. gordon

do they make one that spirals the other direction for south of the equator?

  167. This would take quite some time when cleaning your toothpaste mess around it. But aside from that, it still looks awesome.

  168. Really innovative and aesthetic

  169. confused

i dont get it. whats the inner message…..?

  170. danvb

This sink can be found at:

    http://www.hightech.ag

  171. That sink is killer! I want it!

  172. super creative, congratulate,
    I love it!!!

  173. Man, love these sinks, something new!!!
